Contractor's College Curriculum
Contractor's College is a 14-module training program. Each module contains a PowerPoint presentation, companion materials and a quiz. Delivered by a team of subject matter experts, each module is designed to be completed in 90–120 minutes in an interactive classroom environment.
VOLUME I, MODULE 1 Ultimate Strategy: The Art and Science of Strategic Business Planning Participants learn how to develop a mission, vision, business model, objectives and more. The resulting one-page strategic business plan provides them with an action plan for long-term strategy for growing a successful business. VOLUME I, MODULE 2 Ultimate Planning: How to Write a Bank, Management or Investor-Ready Business Plan Using the one-page strategic business plan as a starting point, participants will learn how to write a comprehensive bank, management or investor-ready business plan designed to guide the organization and secure capital. VOLUME I, MODULE 3 Success through Certifications: Programs to Help You Win More Contracts Participants learn about small business certification programs designed to give small, disadvantage, minority-, women- and veteran-owned businesses the opportunity to bid and perform on public and private sector contracts. VOLUME I, MODULE 4 Credit Smart Contractor, Part I: Understanding Personal Credit and How to Fix It! The learning objective of this workshop is to teach small and emerging contractors the important role personal credit plays in building a small business and to provide them with the information, guidance and tools to repair bad credit and improve personal credit. VOLUME I, MODULE 5 Credit Smart Contractor, Part II: How to Build Business Credit in 120-Days! Participants will learn the step-by-step process for establishing a business credit profile and building business credit. VOLUME I, MODULE 6 Accessing Capital for Growth The learning objective of this workshop is to teach small and emerging business owners about traditional and alternative sources of debt and equity financing, government-backed loans and how to prepare their firms to access the capital they need to grow. VOLUME I, MODULE 7 How to Write a Clear, Concise and Powerful Capability Statement Participants learn how to write a capability statement designed to inform project owners and prime contractors of their firm's core competencies, key differentiators and competitive advantages. VOLUME I, BONUS MODULE Small Business Resources for Success In this workshop, participants learn about Federal, private and non-profit agencies and organizations that can help them manage and build their companies. |

Introduction to Financial Statements for Non-Financial Business Owners This session provides an overview of four financial statements that affect businesses every day: Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Personal Net Worth Statement and the Cash Flow Statement. VOLUME II, MODULE 9 Insurance and Risk Management: How to Protect Your Business and Personal Assets This session provides insight and information on insurance and risk mitigation to help business owners protect their business and personal assets against unforeseen losses. VOLUME II, MODULE 10 Introduction to Surety Bonds The learning objective of this workshop is to teach participants why surety bonds are required and what it takes to secure, maintain and increase a firm’s surety bonding capacity over time. VOLUME II, MODULE 11 Responding to Bids and RFPs: Bid Better. Win More. Grow Your Business. The learning objective of this workshop is to provide small and emerging business owners with information, strategies and guidance to bid, win and perform on public and private sector construction projects. VOLUME II, MODULE 12 Introduction to Construction Project Management The learning objective of this workshop is to provide small and emerging business owners with clear guidance on how to coordinate, plan schedule and control a project from pre-construction through completion and delivery. VOLUME II, MODULE 13 Understanding Construction Contracts This session provides participants with an understanding of common contract provisions that impact almost every construction contract to help them better manage risk and the potential for disputes, liens or losses on a construction project. VOLUME II, MODULE 14 Entrepreneurial Leadership and Influence (Capstone Course) Anyone can start a business, but it takes an entrepreneurial leader to manage and grow a successful business. This session provides a road map for building a thriving and sustainable construction company with tips from some of history’s greatest and most successful leaders. VOLUME II, BONUS MODULE Social Media Marketing Mastery This workshop is designed to teach small business owners how to develop a no-cost or low-cost social media marketing program to build brand awareness and increase sales. |
