Overview of Contractor's College

 

Contractor’s College is designed to prepare contractors to compete in the highly competitive construction industry by helping them build their financing and bonding capacity. 

 

Components of Contractor's College

 

Education:  Classes are taught by industry leaders and will cover topics ranging from business planning to risk management and preparation for the State licensing exam.  Emphasis on business certifications (e.g., SBA-8(a), DOTD, etc.) is a critical part of Contractor's College.

 

Financing and Bonding Capacity Assessment:  All participants will receive financial and bonding capacity assessments.  The assessments will help determine if the participants are currently able to obtain financing and bonding.  If it is determined the participants cannot currently obtain financing and bonding, the business will be assisted in improving its financing and bonding capacity and will be shown what needs to be done to become lender-and bond-ready.

 

Technical Assistance:  Participants will have access to one-on-one management and technical assistance through our local and national strategic partners.  The management and technical assistance provided designed to help improve their access to credit, capital, and contracting opportunities.

 

 

Who Qualifies for Contractor's College?

 

Contractor's College is not meant to be a substitute for formal education programs, but is designed as a supplement to help your business grow.  Contractor’s College is best suited for small, disadvantaged, minortiy- and women-owned contractors looking to grow their businesses.

 

 

Objectives of Contractor's College

 

»        Improve the participant’s knowledgebase of business planning and management skills;

 

»        Assist in increasing the participant’s financing and bonding capacity through comprehensive business and personal credit education classes;

 

»        Assist the participants in increasing their contracting opportunities through business certifications and tax incentive programs;

 

»        Assist participants in preparing for the state contractor’s licensing exam; and

 

»        Provide participants an opportunity to network and build alliances with local, state, regional and national contractors.
